Slept up to 10:00 AM as Imelda has not yet adjusted her sleeping hours.
Had a whole day with the family of Kokoy [Benjamin] Romualdez.
Brunch at 11:30 AM.
Studied the smuggling problem. Blue seal cigarettes are coming in volume again. The Hongkong factories are working 24 hours a day. The reports indicate the whole production comes to the Philippines. And the syndicates prominent among them that of Bocalan are back in business. Ordered Gen. Pelagio Cruz of ASAC [Anti-Smuggling Action Center] to work out a solution by Wednesday.
Played with the children at the park across the river from 5:30 to 6:30 PM.
Then we (the four of us Marcoses) saw the movie “Charly” together. Ate dinner while seeing it.
I changed my mind about going to Tanay Hq. of the Second Brigade to see the 1,700 ROTC [Reserve Officers’ Training Corps] cadets on guerilla training. Wanted to stay with Imelda and the children the whole day.
And anyway this would have been misunderstood as trying to influence the ROTC which has been deputized for election duties by the Comelec.
Official Gazette for October 4, 1970: President Marcos spent the day quietly at Malacañang with members of his family. At noon, the President and the First Lady, Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos, heard Mass at the Palace Chapel. With them at the Mass were their children, Imee and Irene.
In the afternoon, the President spent some time in his private study working on official papers.
