Imelda arrived at 1:20 PM by the last PAL [Philippine Air Lines] international flight from Honolulu. She is busy recounting her experiences to our close friends at the dining room.
Although we had announced that she did not wish to be met at the airport, there was a big welcoming crowd including the diplomatic crowd.
She has grown thinner and slimmer. She says she is 126 pounds. And, of course, lovelier.
And still as energetic and lively as ever. She does have the stamina of a paratrooper.
Now the Palace will be happy again.
6 Huks, NPA [New People’s Army] were killed in Buac, Sta. Fe, San Marcelino, Zambales this morning. Nine firearms were captured, three (two of them colonels) were wounded when a Huey helicopter about to land was attacked and ambushed with small arms fire. The helicopter was disabled but was able to fly out and land forcibly destroying the right landing skid. The fuel pump was disabled.

Official Gazette for October 2, 1970: President Marcos spent most of the morning at his desk working on state papers, then at about half past noon he motored to the Manila International Airport, along with children Imee and Irene, to meet the First Lady, Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos, who was scheduled to arrive from the United States at about 1:30 p.m.
The President went to the MIA early so that he could also be on hand to welcome back Salvador del Rosario, who won the gold medal in his weightlifting class. On meeting the first Filipino to win first place in an international weightlifting tilt, the President said that it was a feat which gave the country great prestige. As soon as the PAL jet, Sampaguita, came to a halt at the MIA main apron, the President and his children, as well as his mother, Mrs. Josefa Edralin Marcos, boarded the plane. Shortly, they emerged with the First Lady.
From the MIA, the President accompanied Mrs. Marcos to the Nayong Pilipino, where she cut the ribbon opening the exhibit of ceramics at the Vigan House and presented the awards to the winners of the annual cleanliness and beautification contest. Then, the President and the First Lady left together for the Palace, arriving there at about 3 p.m. The rest of the President’s working day was taken up by more paper work.
During the day, the President designated Eliseo V. Villamor as acting undersecretary of commerce, vice Fernando Campos, who resigned to run for a seat at the Constitutional Convention. At the same time, the Chief Executive submitted to the Commission on Appointments for confirmation the nomination of Prescilio G. Evangelista as municipal judge of Lingayen, Pangasinan.
