Spent the whole day in the Palace resting, reading and writing.
Have just checked what I was doing on the first days of August because the hold-upper of the Butler house who negotiated a [sic] escape after the killing of a maid and the wounding by shotgun of Mrs. Butler who had become hysterical (at 7:00 AM this morning) and was helicoptered in the Manila Times Newsboy at the instance of Chino [Joaquin] Roces and with Reuter Batigas Daily Star columnist and Robb owner of Alalkouer and the Butler child (14 years old girl) to 3 kms. east of Puong Bato, Botolan, Zambales where he dropped off and allowed all the others to return in the helicopter—claimed when talking to Reuter Batigas that the group of four or five almost assassinated me on Aug. 2nd or thereabouts.
He is 5 ft. 7 inches, fair complexioned, spoke English well and “buo ang loob.”
That he landed in Botolan at that time of the day indicated he was in the group of Commanders Felman and/or Panchito or had contact with them.
This could have been an NPA [New People’s Army] fund raising project.
Checked the Northern provinces political campaign by telephone—Gov. Carmeling Crisologo, Cong. [Simeon] Valdez, Gov. Guerrero, Comm. [Jose] Evangelista, Cong. [Eduardo] Cojuangco [Jr.], Sen. [Leonardo] Perez, Mayor [Luis] Lardizabal etc.
Sulu Cong. [Indanan] Anni reported with ex-Gov. [Arsad] Sali, Sulu was solid but they needed funds. Gave them both.
Mother went to San Fernando, La Union to attend to the memorial of father.
