Talaga Bay by 10:00 AM. Water skiing from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Learned to lift my right ski even on the turns and notwithstanding the swells and big waves. The trick is to lean back.
Arrived Manila Bay by 4:30 PM. Anchored off the Rizal Park. Then docked at about 10:00 PM when the children were on the phone.
[Richard] Nixon and [Nikolai] Podgorny (It turned out [Leonid] Brezhnev signed not Podgorny) signed the Strategic Arms Limitation Agreement. Looks like Nixon has had a successful trip. This improves his political chances specially since his policy of mining the ports and blockade has resulted in a statement although the North Vietnamese has occupied Khontum.
[Eduardo] Quintero arrives tomorrow in the boat which we sent for him. He has reiterated that Malacañan has no connection with the lobby money. But 10 delegates, all Liberals or activists, led by Father [Jorge] Kintanar, claim they are ready to testify saying there is evidence connecting Malacañan.
Father Kintanar is the demagogue priest turned politician who is more Liberal than fair. He is an Osmeña supporter.
All the others are Liberals and activists.
The supposed “evidence” has all the hallmarks of concoction coming as it does at this tardy date when all the opportunity was given them to reveal this alleged anomaly before.
Official Gazette for May 28, 1972: The PRESIDENT commended the officers and men of the Presidential Guard Battalion for their statesmanship and exemplary professional conduct in the performance of their duty.
The occasion was the 34th Foundation Day Anniversary of the battalion. Brig. Gen. Fabian Ver, PGB commander, conveyed the message of the President who, for the first time, was unable to attend the annual commemorative ceremonies because of the pressure of work.
