as last night I was busy
with Imelda’s problems
Went to Wack-Wack—practiced and returned at 11:30 AM to discover Imelda still asleep.
Mass at 12:30, lunch with the family.
Nap at 2:00 PM.
Woke up at 4:00 and held conference at 4:45 after exercising in our bedroom.
Then returned to the palace at about 9:00 PM for dinner.
Slept at 11:30 PM or rather went to bed but actually slept at 12:15 AM.
Official Gazette for July 5, 1970: President Marcos asked the Monetary Board to authorize, according to law, the opening of dollar accounts by individual depositors in private banks, as an added measure to conserve foreign exchange and keep dollar earnings of Filipinos and other entities in the Philippines within the country. The President told the Monetary Board that these dollar accounts should be giver, the same treatment as private deposits made in local currency. This means, the President explained, that such deposits cannot be touched by the government, but can only be spent by the depositors themselves. To encourage such deposits, the President made clear that as far as the government is concerned, no questions will be asked as to the source of such deposits.
