Nick and Ramon Jimenez have just worked out the statement they recommend [Eduardo] Quintero to make in the opening day of his cross-examination, Friday, July 7th (9:30-11:30 PM).
I have my misgivings about even dealing with Quintero’s emissaries.
Today I brought Cong. Tito Dupaya and David Puzon together with [Juan] Johnny Ponce Enrile. Criminal cases have been filed by the Comelec [Commission on Elections] against the two congressmen for coercion and buying votes in the elections of 1971. It is suspected that Johnny helped Jimmy [Jaime] Ferrer (Comelec Chairman who wants to run for President) in gathering evidence against them.
Received the reports of Com. Conrado Diaz on J. Amado Araneta, Sec. Alex [Alejandro] Melchor [Jr.] and the Executive Committee of the National Security Council.
I attach them.
[Joaquin] Chino Roces met with [Raul] Manglapus. Report of Greg Perez attached
Official Gazette for July 3, 1972: THE PRESIDENT did not receive callers and concentrated instead on desk work.
The President buckled down to paper work shortly after breakfast, breaking off at past noon for lunch and a brief rest.
He resumed his work on official papers later in the afternoon.
