I met Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Karim lII for practically the whole day. He accompanied Princess Tarhata [Alonto-Lucman] better known as the daughter of the Sultan of Sulu, Sultan Jamalul Kiram Putli Amilbangsa and the two brothers of Muhammad Jamalud, Ibrahim and Ismail.
They propose to actually invade and recover Sabah from Malaysia since Malaysia and the other Sabnh authorities have not done anything about the claim.
I attach the letters of Princess Tarhata Kiram and Sultan Mohammad Jamalul Kiram.
As the young Sultan explained it, Tum Mustapha is out of power but could be helped by armed men who could take over the different towns without much opposition were Kota Kinabalu falling to about 300 armed men. After which negotiations should be initiated for a settlement.
They propose to go it alone without Tum Mustapha if the Philippine government helps in arms and funds, Thus they claim, the Muslim rebels in Mindanao would be rechanneled to Sabah and not be fighting the Philippine government.
Tempting specially since Suara Malaysia still attacks us and arms still shipped to the MNLF [Moro National Liberation Front] through Sabah.
But I have told them that the Philippine government cannot help them but instead “I dissuade them from this hazardous enterprise.”
We have to deal with them diplomatically because they may just turn against us for not pushing the claim to Sabah more aggressively.
And they seem determined to push this enterprise. My assessment is that they already have an understanding with Tum Mustapha to conduct a rebellion of some sort (and may have been the authors of the bombing attacks on various communities in Sabah lately). They admired that Tum Mustapha has already asked them to organize some armed men for this purpose.
And I believe that even if we oppose their move, they will continue the project.
We have to watch this as it may wreak ASEAN [Association of Southeast Asian Nations].
