Imelda arrived Saturday evening at 7:40 PM by PAL [Philippine Airlines] from Bangkok after seeing the Shah and Shah Banon the day before. They have assured her of a nominal flow of our original level of oil supply, are interested in our Filoil offer of joint ownership and barter of coconut and sugar for oil.
That same evening we won the Asian basketball championship from the Koreans in an exciting game at 90-78. We saw the game by television in the VIP kiosk at the MIA [Manila International Airport] then at halftime we brought Imelda to Malacañang to see the second half.
Saturday noon I gave a luncheon for Lt. Gen. Ibnu Sutowo, Pertamina (Indonesia) president, as we watched the Philippines win the Putra Cup this year from the veranda of the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
We brought Gen. Sutowo, his wife, three children and Mr. and Mrs. Robin Lob to Talaga after a dinner and cruise that evening. They returned by helicopter to Manila by 12:00 AM, Sunday as they had to leave that afternoon and I also wanted them to see Corregidor and Mt. Samat.
