MR. JOSE RIZAL
MY DEAR SIR,
The letter by which, without my knowledge, was delivered to you today by Antonio Miranda to whom it was addressed, contained phrases mortifying to you which from this moment I withdraw, retracting all that I have meant with them.
Well, now, in one of your letters that I have not saved was the statement that “if he were a truthful man, he would have told me that the lumber not included in the account was bad.” As this involves now, I should like to know if you hold that opinion of me, or if you withdraw it at my invitation.
In the meantime I remain your sincere servant who kisses your hand.
J. LARDET.
