Hopes Rizal finds comfort in the company of Luna in Paris – Without details on El Felibusterismo – It’s regrettable that we have to fight not with gentlemen but with bandits and group of Quioquiaps and Desengaños – If some of the articles in La Solidaridad were translated into Philippine languages! – Plans for our campaign – Doctor Schadenberg returns to Manila with many copies of La Solidaridad – If he is denounced, enemies will declare Bismarck’s hand in all of this.

Professor Ferdinand Blumentritt

My Brother,

I see by your latter that you are very sad. I can’t do anything against this and I hope that in Paris you’ll find comfort in the company of Luna who has so noble a heart. I’ll write you later about the extremes in your letter, today I’ll write you only a few lines.

I have no information about the book you have just written. Is it a novel like Noli me tangere or is it some scientific work?

Either the friars have become stupid or they suppose that the Filipinos are so when they amuse themselves portraying me as a deserter. It’s regrettable that we have to fight with such foolish adversaries, because there is not among them one gentleman without fear and without reproach. They are no other than tonsured bandits and groups of thieves of the Quioqiaps and Desengaños kind.

I would be very good if some of the articles in La Solidaridad were translated into Philippine languages. I figure the thing in this manner: La Solidaridad publishes a sheet as a supplement to each issue as the Manila newspapers do with Reyes’ writings.

I have many plans for our campaign but all these cannot be told in letters. I’m sorry I could not live in Madrid in complete Solidaridad.

Doctor Schadenberg has returned to Manila with his wife; now they ought to be near Aden. He wanted to take many issues of La Solidaridad for distribution among his friends in Ilocos and Abra. I did not want to allow it, because he is German and if they denounce him, they will say that Bismarck is the inspirer of La Solidaridad.

Write me at once your address so that I can write you again.

My wife and children greet you cordially. Your friend embraces you.

Blumentritt
