My dear Friend and Brother,
I have just received a series of clippings of La Voz de España and La Opinión, full of dirty and ridiculous attacks directed against my person. I shall send them to you soon. They contain no argument, but just manifestations of blind hatred. I fear for the freedom of our friends; I do not know how to answer them in order that they will not be suspected of having relationships with the great filibustero Blumentritt. They feared the hint of an uprising organized by the friars on the occasion of the feast of the Most Holy Rosary, for the governors of Bulacan and Nueva Ecija held secret interviews with the vicar of Gapan, Fray Francisco Arriola, in the town of Peñaranda or in Cabantauan.
