Dear Friend,
Your long silence frightens me, though I imagine you must be very busy, not only with your work, but also with your friends and countrymen. Write me even two lines in order to free me from my fears. I like very much Plaridel’s pamphlet. I have sent a copy to Jovellar, who has not yet answered me. The Peninsular Spaniard who defended me in La Solidaridad must be Colonel Pío A. de Pazos y Vela Hidalgo, because he and Engineer Ramón Jordana are the only Peninsular Spaniards I know who are completely with us (only they are opposed to the expulsion of friars, because no Spanish government for many decades will permit it). What do they write from the Philippines? The last mail from the Philippines did not bring me either letters or magazines, with the exception of the review España Oriental, or clippings.
With cordial greetings from all of us.
Faithfully yours,
Fernando Blumentritt
