Rizal Day celebration. More and more I find it difficult to admire [Jose] Rizal the intellectual who compromised and whined and begged to be the hero I can worship. Specially since he was chosen and built up by an American, Gov. Gen. Howard Taft.
As I wrote in the lecture of Imee on Rizal at Calamba, Laguna, this morning. Rizal did lay down with the other filibusteros the moral basis for the revolution of 1896.
More and more am I am [sic] convinced that the virtue that attracts me most in a man is not mere intellectualism which is common, but courage, unflinching courage, in the face of adversity or in the face of almost certain failure.
