Have just played golf, had a massage, conferred with Bobby [Benedicto] after golf as well as with Cong. Pablo Roman on the Free Trade Zone in Bataan and the programs of the Mariveles Port Development and at 9:30 PM met with [Jose] Joe Maristela who reports that tomorrow Gabby Cruz and Vic Labayog are going to Hongkong and in two or three days go to Tokyo apparently to coincide with the trip of Imelda to Japan. Since these boys are men identified with the conspiracy, we have to take precaution. Incidentally [Juan] Daza and Vic Labayog were in Saigon for three weeks on a mission to buy firearms and explosives. Joe says he suggested they be brought through Jolo.
We have notified Ambassador [Toshio] Urabe of Japan about developments. I personally called him up by telephone yesterday as I had no time to see him personally and then sent Col. [Fabian] Ver in the afternoon. He gave assurances of security for the First Lady.
The Department of Agriculture reinstated one lumber concession I ordered cancelled in the San Mariano Valley, Isabela for violation of regulations. I have ordered an investigation.
The Philcomsat [Philippine Communications Satellite Corporation] has to be helped as it is recovering from financial doldrums. It is a pity since the communications satellite ground station is one of the accomplishments of my first administration.
Imelda has lost about ten pounds for the trip to Osaka and is now in a busy whirl having her new dresses redone and refitted. Her wine speeches are all ready but she is not content. I am waiting for her from Cecille Yulo Locsin’s house where she went for dinner
Official Gazette for June 16, 1970: President Marcos tended mostly to his homework, with no outside visitors on his official schedule. He only saw close aides and other government officials on consultation relating to various problems and concerns elevated to his desk.
Among others, the President studied official reports and acted on a number of state matters, including the. appointment of the third member of the provincial board of Marinduque, which was recently reclassified as a third class province, thus entailing the appointment of a new board member (Mauro J. Corral), to make three; and the creation of the National Council for Small and Medium Industries, which will give special assistance to these industries in the way of upgrading management and operations and solving financial difficulties.
The President stayed close to his office desk through the morning, afternoon and early evening.
