Have just come from the formal opening of the Nayon Pilipino. All the international beauties were there and the pageant was a big success. It had started to rain but dissipated when I finished my speech and there was a moon at about 8:00 PM. The program started.
Imelda in introducing me said, “Whatever the advances of the modern woman to equal the status of man, a woman is most happy when she is at the feet of her man, worshipping him.” Then she gave me accolade for having first conceived of the Nayon Pilipino.
I reparteed that in the Philippines we men raise our woman on a pedestal to adore her and she gets to the pedestal by first kneeling in tender affection at our feet. Love has no other recourse but to take her by the hand and lead her to higher height of ______.
The Gandhi Centenary awards this morning. Letty Ramos Shahani won first prize. Her son is named Ranjit after the Rajah who beat the British. Then I met the representatives of the Pope. They insisted that the Pope stay with the Papal Nuncio [rather than Malacañang]. I acceded.
