My most cordial thanks for your kind letter of 27 July. With your letter I received that the same time four copies of Manila Alegre in which appears my picture, which is fairly well taken. I ask for your permission to translate your novel into German, though I shall not be duly prepared for it before one year. I could publish it at once two or three chapters. We talk about you constantly, so that my uncle jokingly said that I and my wife are desperately in love with you, which is true. Your beloved parents will please receive the greetings of ours.
