Professor Ferdinand Blumentritt

Dr. Jose Rizal

Dapitan, Philippines

My very dear Friend,

All the letters that I have sent you are until now without a reply. It seems that one anay has eaten them, or they do not allow you to write me –a cruelty that surely does not exist, or at least ought not to exist among them who style themselves as generous, noble, and high-born.[1]

F. Blumentritt

05-782 [Misc.]

[1] He alludes to the Spaniards. The rest of the letter is all of a scientific character and at the end Blumentritt asks Rizal if he could send him some German books, censored beforehand by some Jesuits. (Retana) This letter was not delivered to Rizal. See the letter of Captain Sitges to General Blanco of 8 June 1893 in Epistolario Rizalino (Manila 1936) IV, p. 164.
