Paris

20 May 1889

Dear Friend,

I have your manuscript. Certainly it deserves to be translated. I will begin immediately. Do not worry about the question of money.

I have here 200 marks for you; it is my money. Come when you wish. Advise me only in advance so that I can call the other Filipinos. I should like to prepare here a meeting of good Philippinists.

As I wish only to print my Morga, I fixed up the matter with Regidor. Do you wish to write the prologue for that work? I shall send you the proofs so that you may be able to judge it and express your opinion freely. I beg you to write with complete freedom. I like to grant to anyone complete liberty. The only thing I ask you is your kindness to write the prologue. Forget that I am your friend! Judge it as I shall judge sometimes your work. Inasmuch as I want to say the truth, I should like it to be told to me also. We shall always remain friends!

Pardon this very short letter, because I want to translate at once your Memoir.

Yours,

Rizal
