My very dear Friend,
According to the article Blumentritt y la venda de pasiones (“Blumentritt Hoodwinked by Passion”) in España Oriental and La Voz de España, some members of the Sociedad de Amigos del País[1] are going to propose that Dr. Fernando Blumentritt be dropped as a member of merit of that association for having demonstrated that he is not a true Amigo del País. I have nothing to add. The Sociedad de Amigos del País has only three foreign members of merit, namely, the Count of Lesseps for his immortal work of the opening of the Suez Canal, a work that he did for the whole world and not especially for the Philippines, Prince Oscar of Sweden, for having visited Manila, and Blumentritt.
Your brother embraces you,
Fernando.

[1] One of the private associations established in various cities throughout Enlightenment Spain, and to a lesser degree in some of Spain’s overseas territories including the Philippines. In Spain the organizations are credited with some success in sponsoring economic activity, stimulating new industries, and publicizing recent advances in philosophy and science (most of which emanated from England, France and Germany) .
